MESSINA-ROME-SEOUL-JERUSALEM: 1st June 2005 -- If the
month of May was a month for first or final professions, as it was in a
number of instances, then June is ordination month! A total of 12
members of EAO region will be ordained deacons this month, a further 2
will be ordained priests. Then later in the year, August mostly,
further ordinations to the priesthood will take place for a number of
our men from the region.
The studentate in Messina has the largest group:
Three Thais - Boonlert Paneetatthayasai, Ekasit Talhakultorn and
Paradorn Unchatturaporn; three East Timorese - David Savio, Agapito
Alfredo Ximenes and Basilio Ximenes Pereira. These ordinations will
take place on 12th June
From the theologate in Rome , and to be ordained at
Sacro Cuore by Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga will be one from Vietnam -
Barnaba Le An Phong; one form Japan - Pietro Shin Mishima. These
ordinations will take place on 18th June
From Ratisbonne, and therefore the first large group of
deacons from the new theologate setting (moved from Cremisan), two from
Vietnam who are missionaries to PNG: John Anh Phan Nguyen Tuan and
Francis Xavier Phan Tram Cong. These two ordinations will take place on
12th June.
It is worth noting that of a substantially
large group of a dozen final year Salesian students at Ratisbonne
(there are two others from another Congregation), half are from the EAO
Region or working there, and will be ordained priests over the next few
months: Abundio Bacatan from FIS, Acacio de Castro, Jose Augusto
Caetano and Mateus Sudiantoro from ITM, Kriengsak Chaiphornkaew and
Albeiro Rodas from THA. The last-named is from Colombia but has
been working in Cambodia as a missionary and will return there as a
priest in October.
And finally, from the Dae Rim Dong theologate in
Seoul, four Koreans, two to be ordained deacons and two to be ordained
priests: Na Taek Yoo (Francis de Sales, Na Chong Heom (Moses), Park Hae
Song (Bosco), Kim Song Oh (Bonaventure). Bishop Luc Van Looy will
be the ordaining prelate for these ordinations on 29th June. This
will be something quite special as Bishop Luc was once - while these
young men were in nappies - Provincial of
Korea!
Members of the Region are asked to pray for all
these young men.
VOCABULARY
Nappies - what the Americans term
diapers. Need one explain further? OK then, a piece of cotton
towelling or other more modern materials fastened around a baby's
bottom.....
