14 years of 'rejuvenating the face of the Church' in
Cambodia.
PHNOM PENH: 10th May 2005 -- 24th May will see the 14th
Salesian 'birthday' in Cambodia, and a look back over that time sees the
distinctive role that the Congregation has carved out within a young Church and
a youthful society. The 2005 Strenna has motivated the confreres there to
do even more by way of offering concrete services to the youth of the
nation.
The full extent of the Salesian work is the subject of
an article provided for the Catholic Church's website. One quickly
ascertains from the description of the Salesian work that several thousand young
people are the immediate beneficiaries of work in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and
Poipet. The website itself is an excellent example of how the Church can
present an attractive face in a media-mediated culture. The Salesian
contribution can be found by clicking on the Catholic NGO link within
www.catholiccambodia.org .
The Salesian community in Phnom Penh has recently hosted
two vocational seminars for the Emmanuel Group, a group of young people who are
seeking the real meaning of their lives.
