Don Bosco at Cambodian EXPO
2005
PHNOM PEN: 1st April
2005 -- Invited to the first Cambodian Expo and Export 2005 by the
Ministry of Commerce, Don
Bosco Technical
School put up an “expo booth” to
show visitors what Don Bosco can produce and serve. Our aim was, therefore, to
promote Don Bosco products and service.
EXPO 2005 was held at the famous Cambodiana Hotel’s Ballroom and the swimming
pool area to cool off the summer heat of March 24-27, 2005. The EXPO, a brainchild of His
Excellency Sok Siphana, the secretary of state of the Ministry of Commerce was
himself at the entrance of the event to greet the visitors and tell them about
his vision.
With TV cameras on, he interviewed the Rector of the
Don
Bosco Technical
School about what Don Bosco does for
Cambodia with,
by and for Cambodian youth. “We want to let the private and public investors
know what Cambodian youth can do for
Cambodia and the
world” says Fr. Leo Ochoa.
The secretary of state was especially impressed by the manpower skills training
projects with Don
Bosco Technical
Schools and
Vocational
Skills Training
Centres. He was even more
enthusiastic when informed that Don Bosco was exporting “mechanical gadgets” for
a French company and that Don Bosco past pupils are even being hired as “skilled
workers” in foreign countries.
Varied services offered by the Printing Press Department were an eye-opener to
many potential markets and a capital to our sustainability development program.
EXPO 2005 made Don Bosco more visible to the government, economic donor partners
and local business people. In a country that imports far more that it exports,
this Expo and Export 2005 was a major success for Don Bosco. With Don Bosco,
there is an overall need to find ways and means to drive the economy forward.
