Youthful plaza online at sdb.org
ROME: 10th February 2005 --
When work on the restructuring of sdb.org began back in October 2002 a site for
young people was just a dream. Today it is a reality.
‘Youth Spot’, a web space
for young people, was inaugurated on the evening of January 31, feast of St.
John Bosco. The commencement coincided with the Rector Major’s presentation of
his annual message to the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) from Turin.
The ‘space’ is an
invitation, almost like an open square or plaza, in which youth are invited to
just ‘hang out’ – through the exhibition of their own websites. These sites are
divided into two categories: those created by Salesian Youth Centres across the
world and those created by others, namely by Church youth organizations and by
NGOs who work with young people. The lists are arranged in alphabetical order
and visitors are free to enter and exit any site they
wish.
‘Youth Spot’ sits on the
same server as sdb.org and is also linked dynamically to it. Surrounding the
list of youth websites which take centre stage, are hyperlinks that invite young
people to get to know Don Bosco through stories, photos, paintings, art and
music. There is even a quiz that invites them to take a peep at Salesian
activity on behalf of the young.
The animated cartoons on the
left are glimpses of youth life that change at random with every click on the
structural links of the site.
