Lahore: "The most beautiful initiative for the poor
young people of our diocese"
LAHORE: 30th January 2005 -- The
Archbishop of Lahore, Lawrence Saldanha, has recently described the
Salesian work there (Don Bosco Technical and Youth Centre) as "the most
beautiful initiative for the poor young people of our diocese". And to
show his gratitude for the efforts of the Salesians there, he intends to come
personally on 31st January for the celebration of the Eucharist and to bring
with him two more Bishops from Germany who are visiting!
The Hostel at the centre now welcomes 60
Catholic young men due to increase shortly to 80. The Salesians also hope
very soon to receive Government recognition for up to 12 Technical Certificates,
and now they are planning a Basic Education School to enable trainees to
complete Middle School at Don Bosco before going on to further technical
training.
A week ago an Indian priest from the Punjab
visited the Centre and expressed the wish to use a similar model in his own
setting. It will be a matter of converting the plans which are presently
in Salesian heads and hearts into something that he could take with him, since
the success of the Centre is more than buildings and boys. At the heart of
it are two (currently) outstanding Salesians in Fr Hans Dopheide and Fr Angel
Miguel Ruiz putting the preventive system into action.
