MANILA: 14 April 2010 -- Bishop Broderick Pabillo,
Auxiliary Bishop of Manila, ordained a large group of young Salesians
on April 10, in Manila. Three Filipino deacons were ordained to the
priesthood and nine from four nationalities were ordained to the
diaconate. One of the newly-ordained priests, Fr. Mark Anthony Cerada,
spent two years of his practical training in the missions in PNG, while
Fr. Darwin Tolentino, who officially belongs to the PNG-SI Delegation,
spent five years of practical training in PNG. Of the nine new deacons,
two belong to the PNG-SI Delegation (one Indian and one Filipino), two
from ITM, one from the new Delegation of Indonesia and four from VIE.
Aside from the tqo who officially belong to PNG-SI two others from VIE
have been in the missions in PNG.
Among other things, Bishop Pabillo reminded the
newly-ordained that Holy Orders is a sacrament of service. He also
challenged the newly-ordained: "My dear ordinandi, I beg of you, shine
out in your chastity. This is the virtue which we Salesians should
excel in as Don Bosco tells us. The young need this service. The young
need this witness".
One of the newly ordained, Deacon Savio Angelo
Sanchez, is one of our most faithful correspondents and in fact
provided the above information. We take this opportunity to wish him
and his companions every blessing as they strive, in his own words to
"serve selflessly....with utmost generosity...to serve faithfully".
