TOKYO: 2 May 2010 -- 1 May saw the opening Mass of the Holy
Spirit for the Provincial Chapter for the Sisters of Charity of Jesus
in Japan. This Chapter is historic, since it is the first held in
the province since the Special General Chapter last year which saw a
change of name for this member group of the Salesian Family: from
Sisters of Charity of Miyazaki to Sisters of Charity of Jesus. The
change had been requested due to the expansion of the Congregation
worldwide, now with over 1,000 Sisters in 13 nations. The seed
that was planted at Miyazaki in 1937 has born much fruit.
The Chapter, which has as its theme 'A renewed
beginning as Sisters of Charity of Jesus: proclaiming the Gospel of
hope", is the third Chapter in the history of the Japan province. It
brings together some 70 participants representing the 430 members of
the province. The Chapter is in preparation for the General Chapter
which will be held for the first time in Korea in September-October
this year. _________________ AustraLasia is an
