5703(I)_Project for the 2021 Salesian Missions Day: South Sudan
Worldwide, Caritas Sisters, 4 October 2021 -- Since 1988 the Salesian Family has been invited each year celebrate 'Salesian Missions Day'. This year the theme is 'One Father, One Family' - with a focus on Don Bosco solidarity in the Covid-19 pandemic. The 60 page booklet contains all you need for the mission animation month of October: poster, stories, role-models, 5 video text and links as well the 'Project' proposed by the SDB Missions Sector this year.
The Caritas Sisters of Jesus who will open their 18th General Chapter in a few days time, have been on the African continent since 2011 in South Sudan's capital Juba, in the large Don Bosco complex at Gumbo. Together with the SDB, FMA, MSMHC, the Caritas Sisters of Jesus are also deeply involved in the ministry to the 15,000 or more internally displaced people in this part of the world. There is a large parish and developed vocation training centre.
The Salesian Mission Day Project for 2021 has been to help Don Bosco Health Center at Gumbo, run by the Caritas Sisters of Jesus, to build a new medical store and provide essential medical supplies and laboratory equipment to keep on treating the sick who come from very poor areas of the civil war-torn country of South Sudan.
