Bangkok, Thailand, 10 May 2021 -- After the Cooperator Association in Thailand joined the "Salesian Green Alliance", they were determined to make the "Laudato Si" dream become true at Don Bosco Home, Bangsak as a pilot project. Bangsak Don Bosco Childrens Home is located in the 'tsunami' zone (2004) in Southern Thailand (diocese of Surat Thani).
The children at Don Bosco Home, Bangsak, though most of them are Buddhists, study the message of Pope Francis in "Laudato Si" and put it into practice. They began to revive the natural surroundings of Don Bosco Home by planting forest trees and fruit trees, cleaning and preserving stream water in the area, making a plan to use the water coming from the stream of the utmost usefulness.
At present, the children are growing a variety of fruits: jackfruit, rose apples, mangosteens, mangoes, bananas, pineapples, sugar cane, papaya, passion fruit, etc. They also grow many kinds of vegetables. After a 4-month project, they mow begin to enjoy what they have been doing. However, since the soil at Don Bosco home lacks certain minerals, the children learn to fertilize soil with tree leaves mixed with animal manure.
The whole project is accompanied by the staff of Don Bosco Bangsak Home and Salesian Cooperators on the spot. We give thanks for their daily commitment and simple sharing of their growth!
