Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, 25 February 2016 - 'Those who want to build walls instead of bridges cannot be called Christians' those were the words of His holiness Pope Francis when asked by Journalists on his trip back from Mexico. He was referring to the Donald Trump saga on his wanting a wall built on the border of US and Mexico and the issue of Immigrants.
Today 25 February 2016, Archbishop Francesco Panfilo, SDB reiterated the same words of Pope Francis, on the occasion of the blessing of the Vunapope Bridge (Papua New Guinea - Rabaul archdiocesan center): "We want to build bridges as Christians" he said.
Built in 1830, the bridge had served many who walked to Church in the Main Vunapope Cathedral, it bridged the relationship with a God who waited for them and in turn extended the friendship with their neighbours. At the end of 2015, the bridge was in a bad state that it was unusable. Last week, it was reinstated to its present state by the Nivani Company.
Gathered to witness the blessing were Priests, religious, teachers and students of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Secondary School.
