Seoul, Korea, 22 October 2017 -- The 5 SDB communities from Seoul and Daejeon gathered together in the Provincial House, Seoul, for the Salesian Mission Day 2017 from 2 pm to 6 pm on Oct. 22, 2017. There were around 40 confreres who participated in the SMD 2017. Among them there were 3 missionaries – Fr. Molero Jesus and Fr. Blanco Josemaria from Spain and Br. Bois Marino from Italy – who had committed their lives for about 60 years for the Korean Province. In addition, Fr. Vaclav Klement, EAO Regional Councilor who had been more than 16 years in Korea as a missionary and has been having the Extraordinary visitation to the Korean Province since last Aug. attended in the event.
The SMD 2017 in the manner of a missionary recollection was well animated by Fr. Timothy Choi, Provincial Delegate for Missionary Animation, starting to watch the videos of the SMD 2017, followed by a talk by the Provincial Delegate, who introduced the theme and a booklet of the SMD 2017 and explained the contents of the booklet. Fr. Timothy gave a conceptional account of ‘Initial Proclamation’ in his talk. After the talk every confrere who was invited to have a personal reflection on the talk made his own resolution for the Initial Proclamation. Afterwards, all the participants seriously made community resolution to do the Initial Proclamation and the fund-raising by the respective communities and finally concluded with vespers all together in the Chapel. The Provincial House prepared dinner for and served to the participants. so they enjoyed the meal so much in the manner of a family.
Other 8 communities have already held or will celebrate the missionary recollection as same as above mentioned five communities did, but by each community according to their own schedule. So all confreres of the Korean Province take part in the event. This is extraordinary and meaningful for the Province because it’s the first time for each and every confrere to attend in the event of the SMD, while only some confreres and the Salesian family members gathered to hold the event in the past. During past four years this event was held mainly as Salesian Family event fundraising for the missions and the Salesians were just on the sideline.
Hopefully the Korean Province would be burnt by the missionary fire in all Salesian houses and settings as the fruit of this Salesian Mission Day 2017.
