4441(I)_Yokkaichi summer camp
Joint summer camp of the diocesan parishes held at the Salesian Aspirantate
July 20, 2017
Yokkaichi, Japan, 9 July 2017 -- It is great joy for us Salesians to serve the local church. June 8-9, at the Salesian Aspirantate of Yokkaichi was held the yearly summer camp for kids from the southern MIE district of Kyoto Diocese. Around 40 youngsters aged between 7 and 18 came together for the 2-day program, in which the Salesian aspirants served them as leaders. Salesian sisters and their aspirant helped the camp and played an important role too. The program was arranged under the theme “the Lord is my light”, taken from the local bishop’s pastoral letter. As is often the case, the camp was filled with festive and joyous atmosphere: games, swimming, group work, barbecue, good-night talk, eucharistic celebration, and group presentation.
This joint summer camp started in Yokkaichi at the Salesian aspirantate every summer since 2005. Since then, this has been a wonderful opportunity for us Salesians and the Aspirants to work with and for the local parishes in the Diocese. And it is true that, through our cooperation, the spirit of Don Bosco has come to be known and accepted by the people here who had once never heard even the name of Don Bosco!
Apart from the kids summer camp, the Salesians of Yokkaichi have given as much support as possible for the local parishes through, such as,recollection for young adults, Bible reading class, Sunday school assistance.
May our work as Salesians always be a contribution that builds the one Church of Christ.
