5650_Sumba expresses 'love and care' for our common home
Sumba Don Bosco, Indonesia, 17 July 2021 -- “If we approach nature and the environment without this openness to awe and wonder, if we no longer speak the language of fraternity and beauty in our relationship with the world, our attitude will be that of masters, consumers, ruthless exploiters, unable to set limits on their immediate needs. By contrast, if we feel intimately united with all that exists, then sobriety and care will well up spontaneously..” - Pope Francis, Laudato Si'.
Reflecting on the words of Pope Francis we from Don Bosco Technical school in Sumba express our love and care for our common home with a simple activity, cleaning up trash along the shores of Menanga Abba, Sumba island in East Indonesia.
In the midst of the pandemic crisis that has hit Indonesia, the children of Don Bosco showed their concern not only for the poor but also for the environment which is also poor and needs our attention. We will continue.
The Don Bosco Sumba presence was started in 2001 in this island with a predominantly Christian population in the eastern part of Indonesia. At present the SDB community (Rector Fr. Adie Prinanto Laurensius + 6 confreres) is entrusted with the Aspirantate, Pre-novitiate, BLK (TVET) and SMK (Secondary technical school with boarding house).
