5313(I)_ADMA dream - EAO Regional Congress 2021
February 10, 2020
EAO Region, 9 February 2020 -- The 150th anniversary of ADMA (Mary Help of Christians Association) taking place in 2018-2019 brought attention to the growth of this Salesian Family group. As a matter of fact, ADMA already numbers more than 800 local registered groups with some 100,000 members in more than 50 countries. At the world level, the leadership is exercised by the Spiritual Animator Fr Pier Luigi Cameroni and the President Mr Renato Valera, and ADMA is the only SF group that still keeps Valdocco - Mary Help of Christians Basilica (Turin, Italy) as its headquarters. Since last 1988 ADMA has organised a World Congress every 4 years - the next World Congress is scheduled for 2023 in Portugal.
Within our EAO region we might also witness a new spring of ADMA members with the Association taking root in many countries. Aside from the four predominantly Catholic countries of Timor Leste (TLS), Philippines (FIN and FIS) and Papua New Guinea (PGS) there are rather recently established ADMA groups in Korea (2016), Indonesia (2019), Vietnam (Central and North), Hong Kong (CIN), Thailand (2005) and Japan (2010).
To take advantage of this special historic 'hour', just 10 years after the First EAO Congress (Paranaque, FIN, 21-24 Oct, 2010) the first steps are being taken towards the Second EAO ADMA Congress (Dili, Timor Leste, August 2021). After the Philippines, the Timor Leste ADMA with 35 groups and more than 800 members is the most consistent reality.
Coming together some 18 months from now, it will be a good opportunity to foster, consolidate or rejuvenate this important Salesian Family group. The devotion to Mary Help of Christians is at the heart of the Salesian Charism.
