austraLasia #2084
Korea's
new Youth Ministry Academy
SEOUL: 4th March 2008 -- The Korean Salesian Province's
new Youth Ministry Academy is afloat! In austraLasia #2028 we
indicated, on 15th January, that information had been sent to
prospective students by Fr Marcelo Baek Kwang Hyun sdb, Provincial
Delegate for Youth Ministry and recently appointed as the first
Director of the Don Bosco Youth Ministry Centre in Seoul. On 3rd
March this year, the Youth Ministry Academy opened its doors officially
for the first time.
The YMA course, located in the new Provincial House
in Seoul, comprises 4 semesters, 17 subject areas over a 2 year
period. Because the majority of students are people involved in
pastoral ministry in parishes, they come together at times that suit
them, namely, Mondays. The course "was established with a view to
forming youth ministry specialists in the Korean Church, following a
decision of the recent Provincial Chapter", says Fr Baek. "We
hope to offer useful assistance to the Church, especially in the field
of youth ministry, using the abundant experience we have from the
Salesian world".
The first group of students are 32 in number,
and include 2 Diocesan priests, 8 Sisters and 22 lay people. Not
all are Korean. Amongst them is one Sister from Vietnam and
another from the Philippines.
