7 Ordinations in Seoul,
and the region rejoices
SEOUL: 24th June 2009 -- The Feast of St John the Baptist this
year is a special one for KOR province, with seven young men as
candidates for ordination, one to the priesthood and six to the
diaconate. But it is also a 'regional' celebration inasmuch as
all seven have spent some time either at regional centres
Parañaque (FIN), or Clifton Hill (AUL) where, in addition to
theological studies they have also learned English. Six of them spent a
year at Parañaque, the seventh, Leo, a year at Clifton Hill, and
the rest of his theological studies at Parañaque.
Bishop Basil Cho Kyuman, Auxiliary bishop of Seoul,
is the ordaining prelate. The ordination will take place in the large
chapel on the top floor of the Provincial residence in Seoul.
For ordination to priesthood: Leo Choi Seongkyu.
For ordination to diaconate: Peter Im Hosun, Joseph
Cho Namcheol, Laurence Kang Kyungchae, John Bosco Lee Jeongeun, Felix
We Woonseok, Dominic Seong Hayun.
It is interesting to note the provenance of some of
these candidates. Leo, Peter and Felix all have direct Salesian
connections in that Leo attended a Salesian High School, Peter comes
from a Salesian Parish and Felix is the son of a Salesian Cooperator.
Dominic is the son of a former Korean ambassador to the Holy See, who
also studied at the UPS in earlier years.
