New academic year in Vietnam's Salesian Study Centres
HO CHI MINH CITY: 8th September 2009 -- The Salesians in Vietnam
have just started their academic year in two important centers of
formation: the Postnovitiate and the Theologate.
Encouraged by the guidelines of the GC 26, the
leadership of Vietnam Province makes its greatest commitment to offer
the best for the young confreres in initial formation. Their formation
communities are also the centres of studies. In such a way, the
formators, professors and students interact with one another to deepen
the Salesian charism and apostolate in one distinctive field:
intellectual formation.
This year, 2009-10, the Post-novitiate
community hosts 67 Salesians in formation together with 8
confreres on the staff. It also welcomes 52 non-SDB seminarians from 8
Congregations who frequent the three-year program of philosophical and
educational studies.
The Theologate community is witnessing an increase
in the number of theology students: 36 Salesians and a number of
non-Salesian seminarians. The curriculum is being re-structured in view
of its prospective affiliation with UPS.
