ADMA reborn in Japan
(note: yesterday's city address should have been Manila, not
Jakarta obviously!)
TOKYO: 29th September 2009 -- From the very beginnings
of the Salesian presence in Japan, Salesian confreres, the Sisters,
Cooperators and in a special way the Sisters of Charity of Miyazaki
have always sought to spread devotion to the Help of Christians. Don
Cimatti had also set up the Mary Help of Christians Association
(now represented by the initials ADMA), but in the post-Vatican II
period it had almost disappeared entirely.
Now the Salesian Family in Japan has decided to
renew this decidedly Salesian tradition, and has invited Fr Nestor
Impelido, ADMA delegate for FIN province, Manila, to give a hand.
On Friday 25th at Beppu, Fr Nestor offered a
well-prepared seminar to this effect for sixty or more members of the
Salesian Family Kyushu region. On Saturday afternoon, 26th, he repeated
the seminar in Tokyo Suginami so those at the formation house in Chofu
could be exposed to the same material.
All those who took part showed lively interest in the
topic and thanks to Fr Nestor 's very practical advice there is a good
hope now that the ADMA movement can look forward to a rebirth in
the province where devotion to the Help of Christians was a heartfelt
one.
On the Saturday evening in Chofu another important little
milestone took place. As part of the Evening Prayer service, four young
aspirants began their prenovitiate journey. Over the next six
months they will be followed up and guided as prescribed in the Ratio,
noting that this part has recently been reformulated. There are no
novices this year, but the prenovitiate group gives hope that the
novitiate will once again have members to form.
