June 30, 2014 --Fr John Visser has celebrated his Gold Jubilee
of priesthood in Cambodia. Read about this in the article
below.
Yesterday's austraLasia went into spam almost universally
(from mailnews, perhaps less so from Gmail). Not sure why that
would have happened, but please check your spam and see if it
is there. In the meantime, you would do well to take a look at
Thoughts from the Seedbed, really an excellent production by
some young(ish) EAO members, either
on SDL (if you want to download), or on sdb.org
to
view the web page version.
The
Cambodian Salesian Delegation has celebrated the 50th
Anniversary of priestly ordination of Fr John Visser at Don
Bosco Technical School, Sihanoukville. The preparation
was a surprise for Fr John, who is the current rector at
Sihanoukville and who is also 81 years old.
The Solemn Mass of Saints Peter and Saint Paul saw Fr John
preside, accompanied by Archbishop Yves Ramousse, former
Apostolic Vicar of Phnom Penh, Fr Roel Soto, Salesian
Delegate, Fr Leo Ochoa and other diocesan and Salesian
priests. The Salesian Family and the Cambodian Catholic Church
were also represented by different delegations, including some
teachers from Don Bosco Poipet, Don Bosco Battambang, Don
Bosco Phnom Penh and Don Bosco Kep.
Fr John recalled a deep sense of Church in his homily
honouring the memory of the two apostles of Faith and
Evangelization.
The Mass was followed by a cultural homage of music, dancing
and the presentation of a video clip, The Builder of Dreams.
The childrens music group led by Dominican South Korean Sister
July dedicated a short and wonderful concerto of violins.
