HK SALESIAN GETS KEY UNI APPOINTMENT
HONG KONG: 11th March -- Fr. Peter Newbery, presently Director of Hong
Kong's Salesian Youth Outreach programme, has been appointed to a
teaching position within the University of Hong Kong, specifically to
teach a youth course to intending social worker graduates. Fr. Newbery
is himself a graduate of HKU, and has a further post-graduate diploma in
Criminology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Fr. Newbery, who has extensive experience working with problem youth,
and who was decorated by Queen Elizabeth II for his work as Chaplain
General to Hong Kong prisons, has said that it is not just a personal
honour to be invited to take up this post, but that it was most
appropriate for Salesians to have an influential presence amongst future
social workers in Hong Kong.
The course commences in September, and will focus on social work
practice with delinquents and other young people experiencing emotional
and behavioural problems.
