5622(III)_Gwangju Bosconians celebrate the 'Holy month of Our Lady'
Gwangju, South Korea, 1 June 2021 -- Most of the 25, 000 of Past pupils of Don Bosco (Bosconians - called 'Salesians' in South Korea) who graduated from Gwangju Salesian High School (established in 1956) keep this heartfelt May celebration of Mother Mary in mind in a special way.
In Korean this event is called '성모성월' (圣月圣母), literally in English: Holy Month of Holy Mother). Due to the pandemic, for the first time this traditional school event was held 'in the digital space' with the involvement of many teachers, dozens of students and the whole SDB community of Gwangju - Il Gog Dong, Rector: Fr Francis Kim). The 35 minute video is available on the 'SBS' (Salesian Broadcasting Station).
The introduction by the Senior High School Principal, Mr. Han Moon-No, spells out clearly the two main goals of this celebration: First aim - give thanks for the love of Jesus's Mother and each mother and Second aim - entrust to Mary the pressing needs of this current historical moment.
This time each mystery of the Rosary was offered for the most challenging situations: the end of the Covid Pandemic, Peace on the Korean Penisula, Global environment movement and Peace and Democracy in Myanmar. Music animation was thanks to the Catholic students choir and one SDB community. Especially heartfelt was the short drama - Myanmar democracy struggle presentation by a group of students - to motivate the school community to pray and encourage solidarity with the Myanmar suffering and struggling people.
A lively short 'interview' (one question answered with one sentence by 10 students) about mother's love, family bonds ended with the reading of one mother's letter to her son.
Salesian 'family culture' again produces a beautiful experience during these difficult times that can be accessed any time on the web. Congratulations and Thanks!
