MONTEVIDEO: 9 January
2013
-- Someone in Uruguay Province is very clever
indeed! They have made it their speciality to provide
brief little
video spots which nicely sum up Salesian spirituality.
The
problem of course is that they do this in Spanish - problem
for us, not
for them :-)
So, in the interests of internationalisation, austraLasia is
making the
same videos available with English subtitles. It is not the
most
perfect way to do it, but it certainly beats having them in
Spanish for
those who do not understand Spanish!
There
are 3
videos in all, a maximum of 3 or 4 minutes playing time
each. We
have saved them in mp4 format as db1.mp4, db2.mp4 and db3.mp4.
this
format should be generally playable in people's web browsers -
certainly will work in browsers such as Firefox or Chrome.

Other than a browser, probably the best video player to use
for this kind of thing is VLC.
VLC will open almost anything - might even open a bottle of
beer for
you if you are lucky! But the mp4 format can be opened by a
wide range
of video players. If you really want it in another format,
such as ogg
or flv, just ask. It will not be difficult to provide.
Of course,
there are some clever digital natives out there in EAO who,
once they
see this effort and the subtitles, might be able to reproduce
the
videos fully in English. If that is the case, please let
us know!
If you know a little
Spanish, or at least know that you can ask most websites to be
translated automatically by Google, then http://www.salesianosuruguay.org/mauxi
is
well worth a visit. It is a Salesian website with a
difference. Full of
pastoral resources, a library of materials largely in video
format, the
possibilities for new styled digital resources here are
enormous.here.
