austraLasia #2874 Upcoming Mission Study Day in the Region
THAILAND: 19 June 2011 -- One part of the Region, the
East Asia part, is in the proximate stage of planning for
what is being billed as the East Asia Mission Study Day
involving a wide range of Salesian Family members. The event
is scheduled for 14-18 August at Sampram, Thailand.
The Salesian SDB and FMA Mission
Councillors are behind this event, backed by their
respective departments. It is the FMA Thai Province
which will in fact be hosting the event, which will bring in
45 members of the Salesian Family (SDB, FMA, SIHM, ACS, DQM,
SCJ).
Clearly this event is a foretaste of the
2012 Salesian Mission Day theme "Telling the Story of
Jesus". The choice has been made to restrict this particular
August event to East Asia since the focus is primarily on
first proclamation, a key issue in that part of the Region.
While some of the resource persons are from within the
Salesian Family, care has also been taken to think outside
the box and involve several other resource persons - from
Thailand itself - who are not Salesian.
A number of the reflections that will
'feed' the event are already coming in, and they make
interesting reading. Participants have been asked to 'story'
their experience via four questions:
(1) Where you live and work, what has
been your experience of initial proclamation of Jesus to
young people and adults?
(2) What questions emerge, what
challenges are there, and what opportunities present for
initial proclamation in your particular context?
(3) Within the multicultural,
multi-religious and poor contexts of East Asia, what
contribution can religious awareness and sensitivity make
(bearing in mind traditional and new forms of religious
experience)? What attitudes do you encounter amongst the
more marginalised (due to culture, financial means, moral
life)?
(4) Collect experiences and reflections
emerging from your own context regarding initial
proclamation of Jesus who was born, died and rose again in
west Asia, yet even today the Church remains a 'little
flock' in all of Asia (Ecclesia in Asia, n.1)
