CATECHISTS MAY GET UNIVERSAL PATRON IN PNG SAINT
Vatican Correspondent
VATICAN CITY: 4th December -- An identifying feature of the Catholic Church throughout much of Oceania is the institution of Catechist. There have been calls for the role of catechist to be elevated to a universal ministry within the Church. It seems that this will not happen, though the catechist's role has been affirmed and recognized for its significance, especially in island communities. Instead, it looks as if the Pope will heed the call by Papua New Guinea's bishops and proclaim Blessed Peter To Rot, PNG's first indigenous saint, universal patron of catechists.
