CDB: A LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS
ROME: 28th September -- The words on the card said
it all - "O Christ, light of all who believe, fill the entire world with your
glory". These words were chosen by Liborio, who today made his perpetual
profession as a member of the Volunteers with Don Bosco (or CDB). Rome,
all Italy to be truthful, was in the midst of a blackout, for reasons yet
unknown, but Liborio, as the one who now leads the CDB in the world into a new
phase in its early growth, has proclaimed the light of Christ in his life and
the life of the young people he serves as a perpetually professed member of this
new group in the Salesian Family.
The CDB are still a relatively small group in the
Family, perhaps no more than 35 or so professed members with another similar
number in formation. They are in 15 nations already. In the
English-speaking world there is a small number of them in Malta. The CDB
came into existence only a handlful of years ago, growing out of a desire of a
number of young men to follow the charism of Don Bosco in a consecrated but
secular lifestyle. They were given a particular impetus by Fr Vigano in
his time as Rector Major, when they were first able to draw up a rule of life
and prepare to seek membership in the Salesian Family.
