AUGUST 15TH: FIRST STEPS IN SALESIAN LIFE
ROME: 15th August -- From California, Liberia, UK comes
news of those making their first steps in Salesian life today or thereabouts.
Three have begun their novitiate at Bellflower (Ca) under the direction of Fr.
Ted Montemeyer. Chuyen Doan Nguyen, 22, is the youngest of the
three. The other two, Paul Stroup and Steve Standard, are both in
mid-life and have either been teachers or working with youth in difficulties in
various parts of the country.
The two Liberian novices, Sunday Williams and Albert
Gibson have, with some difficulty in present circumstances, left their own
country and gone to Nigeria where they begun their novitiate in 10th
August. Meanwhile in the UK, four young men have begun their
pre-novitiate. Elswhere in Europe, of course, others are beginning their
journey too - or marking the anniversary of their profession.
Meanwhile, in the Australian Province, six young men, five
from Samoa, one from Fiji, are into their final months now of the 2003 novitiate
in Apia, Samoa.
And - 'austraLasia' marks its 700th edition - and round
about its 7th birthday! Its 'cousin', BNN is now up and running, providing
items of wider interest to the non-Salesian world. If you wish to receive
BNN let me know - I would only send you items that have not already been
disseminated 'in-house', or which have been largely re-written for a different
audience.
