Useful Advent Resource
MELBOURNE: 7th December 2008 -- While there's a lull in news
arrival (though, to be sure there would be no lull in things happening
around the region!), here is an item which will be useful during the
Advent season.
The Province of Mary Help of Christians
(Aus-Pacific) website is featuring, amidst its resources, a series of
pamphlets in pdf format, for each week of Advent. Prepared by Fr
Germano Baiguini, they are available for download if you go to the
'resources' tab on www.sdb.org.au
Other bits and pieces from around the Region on this
2nd Sunday of Advent? Within a few moments the Provincial of
Korea, Fr Stephen Nam, will be arriving in Rome to begin the course for
new provincials which is run under the aegis of the General Council
twice yearly. The other recently appointed EAO Provincial, Fr Eli Cruz
from FIN will be attending the June 2009 course.
You might be interested in one follow-up to the
'They have no wine' story about Cremisan's difficulties exporting wine.
One local newspaper in the UK ran a similar story suggesting, from its
headline that the Israeli Army considered 'the school's holy wine to be
a security risk'. Bad journalism! Further down in the article the truth
was made clearer, but not yet clear enough: "The Israeli Army is
stopping the wine being exported because the drink, it says,
constituted a 'security risk'." We are still not clear, not even from
the original source, why a beverage can be a security risk! The article
also referred to "The Salesians of Don Bosoc" (sic)! And what
began badly finished badly - the last line reads 'that nobody at the
school was available for comment'. Would you blame them? They
possibly knew nothing about the whole event!
We are one the eve of December 8th, the Immaculate
Conception. Happy feast day to all!
