May 25, 2016
Hua-hin, Thailand, 24 May 2016 -- Today, the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, the province of Thailand received a great gift from our Mother, Mary Help of Christians in the person of Abraham Saraphan Kaiser who made his perpetual profession as a Salesian Brother. It has been 19 (nineteen) year since the province had a confrere profess as a Salesian Brother.
The Eucharistic celebration was officiated by the by the provincial Reverend Father Prasert together with about 40 (forty) priests. There were also 10 Salesian brothers and 250 guests made up of family, friends, aspirants, students, parishioners, Salesian family members. There were also confreres coming from Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines.
During the homily, Father Provincial shared about the identity of the brother – a Salesian vocation, complementary with the confrere priests, and God’s gift for the young.
At the end of the mass, Brother Saraphan gave his response thanking Fr Provincial on behalf of the province, thanking his parents and relatives, as well as his formators.
Brother Saraphan comes from Chang Mai. Chang Mai has been a seed bed for vocations not only for the Salesians of Don Bosco but for many congregations and for the local church because of the simplicity and strong faith of the people. It is interesting to note that in Chang Mai, the lay catechists perform a very important ministry of taking care of the faithful.
After the mass, a good celebration at table followed together with a program rendered by the students.
Are we going to wait for another 19 (nineteen) years before the next Salesian Brother vocation comes? Definitely not, there are young candidates for Salesian brotherhood. We cannot wait because young people are in need. The young need Salesian brothers who will teach and guide them like the Good Shepherd looking after his sheep.
