3910_First EAO provincial monthly video message

In the Salesian Province of Japan, Fr. Provincial sent the first video message to the Salesian Family on 16th August last year, commemorating Don Bosco’s Bicentenary. Since then, a video message has been issued almost every month.

Latest message February 2016 was posted on the YouTube site of the SDB Japanese Province.

This initiative was started in order to attract attention in society where people are in a flood of information with social media and many other kinds of media. In this situation a short video message seemed to be the most effective means.

The 2-3 minutes short video is created monthly along the following lines:

• The filming is done when the Provincial is visiting the different local communities
• Present the feast days and events
• Present the messages of the Pope and of the Rector Major
• Invite to pray with one heart and to work together

Method of production:

• With a small video camera or smart phone
• Send the data to Fr. Michael Lap who excels in editing videos
• Edit the video with YouTube and upload

Method of distribution and dissemination:

• The provincial Social Communication team announces the release by email, on the Provincial website http://salesians.jp and Provincial Facebook (Salesian Bulletin Japan)

Six months have passed since we began this monthly message. We still need to study how to improve, but it’s not expensive, and the initiative is well received by the Salesians and members of the Salesian Family.

We would like to continue, so it can be a tool to enhance the family communion of the Salesian Family.
