Salesian Youth of Cebu Attended the
idWYD13
at DBTC (FIS)
CEBU CITY
(PHILIPPINES) 11 August, 2013- In line with the
celebration of the World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, around 400 young people gathered at Don Bosco
Technology Center for the Inter DBYC World Youth Day
(idWYD13). This was organized by the Salesian Youth Movement
(SYM-FIS) Coordinators and the Salesians of Cebu District. The
aspirants and novices of Lawaan were present too.
The Provincial of the South Province, Fr. George Militante,
SDB, celebrated the mass while Fr. Brian Butanas delivered the
homily. In his homily, he shared his experience of the World
Youth Day in Brazil. He stressed that we, young people, should
go beyond our comfort zones and take courage in making
disciples of our fellow youth.
Fr. Joriz Calsa, SDB, the SYM-FIS coordinator, said the event
would not be possible without the help from the Salesian
brothers and priests who gave the catechism sessions (just
like the catechism sessions in Rio), the volunteers, and most
especially, the Salesian youth all over Cebu, who, even in
spite of their busy schedules, took time to participate in the
event.
Meanwhile, Fr. Bong Borgueta, SDB, the Salesian Vocation
Director of the salesian south province, emphasized that they
are doing this for God and for the young - that through their
efforts, they may bring more young people closer to Him and
help them find their “calling”.
The whole day event mirrored the events of WYD RIO
particularly the celebration of the Holy Mass, two catechism
sessions which developed the theme on friendship and vocation
as an expression of discipleship, the live Stations of the
Cross, the sacrament of reconciliation, and the Youth
Festival. It was a whole day filled with sharing, reflection,
prayer, and fun, that ended with a goodnight talk at 8 o'clock
in the evening.
