austraLasia #2656 KOR: A most unusual set of minutes!
SEOUL: 7th June 2010 -- Perhaps it is the recent reminders of
our mortality, or as the following Minutes put it, just
'following Natural Law', but whatever it is, amongst the more unusual
of items to cross the desk (AKA download!) today the following arrived
from Korea Province:
"Fr. Provincial put forward the idea on June 29 2009, the 70th Birthday
of Fr. Paul Kim. We sent the confreres the results of the preliminary
study on December 8th 2009.
In that letter we pointed out the conditions for
belonging to a most exclusive, and at the same time, inescapable
club, following Natural Law. The only condition in fact for belonging
to this new club was to have arrived at 70 years of age.
The purposes of the club are as follows:
1. To remind its members to make good use of the
short or long time that they still may have.
2. To advise each other fraternally in order to
correct the defects that they still may have.
3. To encourage each other to become exemplary
religious, and possibly even saints.
4. To be patient and diligent and give good example
to young Salesians.
5. To be good friends among themselves, forgiving
each other for past unhappy events.
6. To exchange useful
information and ideas about health and virtue amongst
themselves .
7. To write a periodical publication or newsletter,
sharing this information, these ideas.
8. To meet once or twice every year to spend time
together in brotherly love.
9. To pray for each other and for young Salesians,
who don't have much time to pray.
In the Provincial Bulletin for January 2010 we
published the list of the members: the most recent member who,
according to oriental calculation, turned 70 years of age on Jan 1
2010, the Year of the Tiger, was Bishop Luc Van Looy, (born in 1941)!
This resulted in the following membership: 2 Americans, 2 Belgians, 4
Koreans and 2 Spaniards. 10 all up.
At the beginning of May 2010 we sent out an official
Invitation for the First Conventio planned for May 24th 2010.
The Program was as
follows:
11:30 a.m. Concelebration
for the Feast day, Fr. Provincial presides
After the Mass the commemorative
photo wearing commemorative caps.
12:30 p.m. Luncheon served
in the Provincial House dining room.
After the luncheon the First
Coffee Meeting until 3:00 p.m.
Seven of the ten eligible members
attended and participated actively and wholeheartedly in the program,
two for health reasons, and one because of distance, were unable to
participate.
The next meeting will be the last
Monday of November, Month of the Hoy Souls.
Report given in Seoul, June 6
2010, by the chronicler of the Club, Fr. Joe M. Banco".
Now, how about that!
