AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL HEALTH MINISTER
LAUNCHES FORD BOOK ON STEM CELLS
SYDNEY: 24th February '04 -- The Hon Tony Abbott,
Australia's Federal
Minister for Health , on 24
February, launched in Sydney the book - Stem
Cells: Science, Medicine, Law & Ethics, edited and authored by Dr
Norman Ford SDB and Michael Herbert.
The Minister praised the initiative to publish this timely book because
Australia's laws on
embryonic stem research come up for review over the coming year. The public and educators at every level
need accurate scientific and medical information on stem cells as well as a
sound ethical evaluation of destructive research involving human embryos, even
if it is done for medical research
or therapeutic purposes.
The book was published jointly by St
Pauls Publications in collaboration with Caroline Chisholm Centre for Health
Ethics, whose Director is Salesian priest Dr Norman Ford. For more information on the book and how
to order it see the Centre's new Web address
www.chisholm.healthethics.com.au
This is also a valuable web site for secondary teachers and
students who are interested in bioethics and health ethics generally. At this site readers may obtain for free
the latest issue of the journal - Chisholm Health Ethics Bulletin,
plus all previous issues.
