Japan Provincial Chapter part one: reflections at the
foot of the mountain!
TOKYO: 18th June '04 -- The Japan province
chose the FMA House of prayer and meditation at Yamanaka as the location for the
first part of their Provincial Chapter. The site, beside a lake at the
foot of Mt. Fuji, is literally one best suited to 'reflections'. The
Chapter has begun to tackle the weighty question of redimensioning within the
Province, a task which to date has required extensive consultation throughout
the province on the nature and function of each of the Salesian works, to verify
what truly enables the Salesian charism in today's Japan with these men and
women (in other words we are not just Salesians SDB alone, but with many others
working beside us) to carry out the mission.
Part two of the Chapter, which will carry these reflections through to the
stage of final deliberation and an organic provincial plan for our times, will
take place in October. Confreres seem to indicate that this has been
amongst the best of Japan's Provincial Chapters from many points of view, not
the least of these being the organisation.
