"Keep on tracking! Keep on
dreaming!"
HENDERSON (SI): 3rd April -- “It’s
amazing to see movement and growth over the past few years”, said Eleonora
Mazzola. “Fr. Luciano Capelli, the
magic man, has been able to help you build on your dreams. The Salesians love you and are working
hard to help you in different ways" she said to the students. "We are happy to be here and are
delighted to assist in whatever way possible. Keep on tracking, keep on
dreaming”.
Eleonora Mazzola
and Maria Teresa Maslowsky, both from the Milan region, have been here
in the Solomon Islands for the third time.
They are two of the 19 volunteers who have come in to assist Don Bosco as
it reaches out to enhance and develop persons. “It is marvellous to see progress and
together with the girls from the villages we are satisfied to have stitched 224
kindy (kindergarten) uniforms" said Maria Teresa. Before arriving in the Solomon Islands,
the two ladies also spent ten days with the Salesian formation community in the
Fiji Islands 'nearby' (in world-wide terms but still several hours away by
air). The local Salesians there had their first taste of authentic
Italian cooking!
Another group of Italian volunteers
belonging to ORMA3, a volunteer group from Sondorio, Italy, left on
2nd April, 2004, to return after having completed their
task. Hardwork, Christian
generosity, commitment, working together, have been some of the values picked up
by the youth and the people of Tetere, from the witness offered by all these
volunteers. Months of planning,
difficulties in execution of the projects – due to the weather and non-
availability of tools and material did not deter them from completing their
tasks. A two floor concrete
structure has been completed on schedule, thanks to the ORMA3 group's sacrifice
and commitment.
At a
farewell ceremony the Don Bosco, Henderson students expressed their appreciation
and gratitude for their visit and their work. On behalf of the students, Br. Paul
Cheka O.P., student at Don Bosco, Henderson, stated that their work would
benefit youth of Solomon Islands.
Songs, dances and creative stories formed part of the
programme.
