FIN: THREE MONTH EXTRAORDINARY VISITATION
BEGINS
MANILA: 26th January '04 -- Yesterday,
25th January, Fr. Vaclav Klement was welcomed into the Philippines North
Province to commence an Extraordinary Visitation in the name of the Rector
Major. Given the size of the Province, the Visitation will take three
months to conclude - there will be brief interruptions in this period as, for
example, the meeting of Provincials and Social Communications personnel for the
Region in Tokyo shortly.
The Philippines North Province is one of those provinces
in the region which contributes to the fact that the EAO region is one of three
in the world that has shown steady growth. The two other growth regions
are South Asia (up by 70 in the past year) and Africa (up by 39). Across
East Asia Oceania there has been a slight rise in numbers of confreres (30).
There are 213 confreres in FIN according to the latest statistics, including six
novices.
The EAO region has 1192 confreres and 73 novices.
In terms of the worldwide Congregation this means it is approximately 7.5
percent of the total Congregation - though numbers of novices represent
14%.
