China Province: Salesian Family honours DB 120th, and Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá

HONG KONG: 27th January 2008 -- Sunday 27th January at Tang King Po School Hong Kong, saw the Salesian Family hold a wonderful celebration of the 120th anniversary of Don Bosco's death.  It was also an occasion to celebrate yet another of the fruits of Don Bosco's holiness, evident in the recent beatification of Ceferino Namuncurá.
The celebration involved a youth function whose main purpose was to promote the virtues of Ceferino Namuncurá, especially his true freedom grasped in his following the God's will instead of his own will. Young people were encouraged by different kinds of activities to offer themselves chastely to God in the Eucharistic Celebration which was held towards the end of the day, thus doing as Dominic Savio, Laura Vicuña and Ceferino Namucurá had done.
Another feature of the celebrations was the spiritual formation offered to the core body (Council) of each participating Salesian Family Group: SDB, FMA, SAL, VDB, Salesian Cooperators and Past Pupils. This part involved ice breaking games, a brief talk given by the Provincial, Fr Simon Lam, and a sharing on the authentic role of being spiritual directors for each group. A time was offered to discuss effective ways of encouraging the sense of belonging of the members.
The climax of the day was the Eucharistic Celebration at which the Provincial presided. It was a time to accompany the already prepared young people on their 'chaste choice' by word and example, and to have full trust in the Preventive System with which, as Rector Major mentioned, the Salesian Family is able to educate young people and its own members to be saints. Ceferino was upheld has an example par excellence. Following the Mass, souvenirs of Ceferino and snacks were distributed to all participants.
