4657(II)_Project of the Year: Salesian Mission Day 2018
Myitkyina Vocation Training Center (MYM) as Project SMD 2018
March 4, 2018
Myitkyina, Myanmar, 4 March 2018 -- Don Bosco Vocation Training Center in Myitkyina celebrated last week another graduation of our Don Bosco VTC, when 25 boys and 18 girls received their diploma and concluded their year long education journey with Don Bosco.
We are happy to share with the world-wide Salesian Family our joy and we are encouraged to be chosen as the Project 2018 for the Salesian Mission Day about 'Whispering the Gospel' in Asia, with a focus on the Vocation Training Centers. At present we are a small SDB community with four Salesians (Fr. Victor Nawki In charge), four Sisters of St. Paul (local Congregation founded by Mons. Charles Bo) and 8 part time (volunteer) teachers - instructors (Catholics, Budhists and other belief) who are working together in our boarding VTC of Don Bosco with 20 years of history.
There are different sections: Carpentry (3 students), Welding (6), Electricity (4), Automotive (12), Tayloring (17) and Beautician (1).
Since our VTC is located in the most Northern part of Mynamar (Kachin State) with a very long history of armed conflict, among our students are also few complete orphans or broken family children. We are happy that 22 of our 25 boys who graduates were immediately employed according their respective trades while three went back to help their families in the rural zone.
We have many future dreams: We would like to increase one trade section each for boys and girls, possibly a Computer Science. There is also an urgent need for two buildings - one story building for library & study hall and another one for the new computer sector. And we also need more adequate textbooks for all seven VTC sections. Could you help us?
Yes, the whole structure of our VTC is made in timber (wooden construction) with few walls made by bricks or cement, so we would like also one day to expand our dormitory (boarding house) to help also our graduates, who already got jobs but have no place to stay in our town of Myitkyina. And course, we dream also one more future step – to upgrade the VTC as Secondary Technical school.
We are happy to receive any help through our Provincial Economer Fr. Leo Mang.
