Kalay Myo, Myanmar, 27 May 2017 -- Six years after starting our Salesian presence in Kalay Myo, finally the Salesian house was blessed by Bishop Felix Lian Khen Thang of Kalay diocese on May 27,2017. Six diocesan priests from Kalay diocese and seven Salesians (priests and clerics) took part in the celebration. There were some 300 faithful and young people who joined in the Eucharist and Blessing ceremony.
The house is named after our founder Don Bosco. It is a boarding for many young boys who stay in the house and frequent the nearby government schools. This year there are 80 boys.
In the community, there are three Salesian priests: Fr Alphonse Aung Naing Shwe, Fr Henry and Rev Fr Edward Sein Myint and two practical trainees. In his homily during the mass, Bishop Felix mentioned that he is very grateful to the Lord for the presence of the Salesians in his diocese. He thanked the Salesians too for their sacrifice and generosity in working for the salvation of many poor youth in Kalay, close to the Chin Hills with a large Catholic population.
