4518(I)_Public expression of Marian devotion in Tainan
Month of the Holy Rosary, procession in the streets of Taianan City
October 10, 2017
Tainan, Taiwan, 8 October 2017 -- As we all know we are during the month of Our Lady of Rosary and yesterday was the Feast of Our Lady of Rosary.
Our parish of Mary Help of Christians in Tainan City has celebrated this feast in a special way today. At 1:30 PM we have the living Rosary, said in different languages in the compound of our Salesian Technical School, after the Rosary we had the procession with the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, of Mary Help of Christians as well with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
Then after that, at 4:00pm we have the Eucharistic celebration presided by His Excellence Bishop of Tainan (Salesian Cooperator) Bosco Lin in the hall of the Salesian Technical School. As every year this strong moment of public devotion to Our Lady was a great encouragement to live our faith with humility and determination also in the public space.
Great numbers of our parish community members are migrants workers from the Philippines and from Vietnam. At this occasion all three major language groups - Chinese, Filipino and Vietnamese - expressed the communion within the Catholic community. Also our multi-cultural Salesian community animating the parish and the school was at the center of this event and each one of the Salesian Brothers and Priests shared their joy of sharing the Gospel.
The Catholic Church in Taiwan is a tiny minority (about 1%) among more than 20 milliions of population of Budhist or Traditional religions. Only in the our Tainan City (former capital of Taiwan) of one million of population are more than 400 Budhist temples.
