YANGON: July 17, 2014 -- Fr
Klement has left Rome and begun his five month long swing
through EAO. He began an animation visit to the vice province
of Myanmar on July 14 2014, landing at Yangon International
Airport at 8:50 a.m. local time, 15 hours journey from Rome.
He was welcomed by the students of theology at the Provincial
House in Yangon.
In a short and simple welcome program the Salesians expressed
their joy and expectations of the Regional's visit.
Fr Francis Dass, as vicar of the Superior, gave a welcome
speech in the name of the Superior, Fr Maurice, who was unable
to be there to welcome him. For his part Fr Klement passed on
the greetings of the Rector Major and other superiors in
reply.
Although 15 hours is a substantial flight and the time
difference is 5:30 hours, it did not take Fr Klement long to
adjust and he set to work immediately, meeting the students
together in the assembly, and then individually as well.
On the following day, 15 July, Fr Klement visited the Salesian
parish and the construction site of the Don Bosco
Vocational Training Centre in Yangon.
On July 16 he went on to Anisakan (north of Mandalay at the
geographical heart of the country) where he is currently
meeting confreres. Anisakan has two communities, one known as
'Nazareth', with an aspirantate, Parish, Oratory and various
pastoral activities, the other St Joseph's novitiate, Between
them there are some nine confreres and four novices.
