Change afoot for Henderson school
HENDERSON (SI): 11 October 2011 -- “Don
Bosco is phasing out the secondary school to give greater
emphasis to technical courses and programmes”, Fr Raffy
Galve told parents and guardians assembled at Don Bosco
Technical Institute, Henderson on 8 October. He had been
visiting the school for a week as part of his canonical
visitation. DBTI, as the name implies, has a technical
focus, but with regard to the change under way "perhaps at a
later stage we could reopen the possibility", he said.
An Institutional Analysis of the
Institute will commence next year. This will be done
keeping in mind the Solomon Islands National Development
Strategy 2011 - 2020. “In evaluating our relevance,
the Institutional Analysis will strive to understand the
relevance of the different courses, the need of Industry and
the direction of government”, Fr Galve said.
Keeping in mind changing global trends,
he encouraged the students to prepare themselves for a
broader perspective that will enable them be gainfully
employed in the ever-growing global market.
Principal, Ms Camari Bainivalu,
congratulated the students for their improvement in the
third term examinations.
Fr Galve also had the opportunity to
address the Salesians and teachers and other persons
connected with the Institution. He met with Archbishop
Adrian Smith sm and Bishop John Doaninoel sm, Collin
Ruquebatu, School Board Chairman, Bernard Rapasia, TVET
Department. He has appreciated the progress and the
direction of the Institution and commitment and sacrifice of
the Principal and staff to give the students hope for their
future.
