ROME: 20h December -- 1. Today in Japan the nomination of a new Provincial: was made
public
Fr. Orlando Puppo, born 1941.04.25 in Argentina, missionary in
Japan since 1965, since 2001 was Provincial Vicar. Speaks
Spanish, Japanese, Italian, English, Portugese, French . He was working for 26
years in the missions in southern island of Kyushu, involved
also in the
pastoral for migrants from Latin America. Delegate of GIA to GC 25.
2. The
new portal site: www.sdb.org is under construction, will be opened from January
3. January
6th will be the ordination of 2 more Salesian bishops: after Mons. La Piana
(Sicilian ex Provincial) the next was nominated yesterday Fr. Angelo Amato, ex
dean of UPS
theology - was appointed as successor of Mons. Bertone, -
the Secretary of the Congregation of the Faith...

Ford SDB was invited to speak on "Human embryonic stem cell
research: the
position of the Catholic Church" at an International Congress
on Ethics in
Organ Transplantation held in Munich, Germany, 9-13 December.
Over 220
participants were registered. His talk was well received.
Most
participants show no willingness to support such research nor
therapeutic
cloning
