FOOTBALL IN MANILA: 1
by Francis Gustilo
MANILA - The Salesian students of theology in the Philippines have made
it to the finals slot of the Manila Premier Soccer League here in Manila.
The team is an international mix, made up of young Salesians from 5 Asian
nations, namely Japan, South Korea, Thailand, East Timor and the
Philippines. They have joined an open league in Manila and have hurdled
all their 7 games, 5 wins and one tie.
Last Saturday, 15 November, they had to hurdle over the Don Bosco Youth
Center team from the slum area of Tondo. Both Salesian teams having equal
soccer talent, and this meant that the close game produced a nail-biting
finale resulting in just a 1-0 score. Perhaps it was the stamina and grit
of the international students that brought the Theology Team forward to
the last and championship game.
Wait for the result within a week!
