WYD - registering for Salesian events

MELBOURNE: 21st February 2008 --  In tandem with yesterday's overview of World Youth Day events as they concern Salesian pilgrims to Australia in July, today we present further important information for intending visitors.
    WYD is far more than a major outdoor Mass in the presence of the Holy Father. It is a series of events of catechesis, celebration, witness, prayer.  The Salesians are marking this process with two major events, one prior to the WYD Week itself, in Melbourne, the other part of the WYD week, in Sydney.  The Salesian 'Days in the Diocese' event in Melbourne, on Friday 11th July, is being billed as an international youth festival, with the confirmed presence of Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga SDB.  The Rector Major, who is certainly confirmed for the WYD week, will almost certainly make it to Melbourne as well.
    The most important fact for visitors with Salesian connections, other than the WYD Registration achieved via the WYD Website, is SALESIAN REGISTRATION for the Melbourne and Sydney Salesian events.  This registration is achieved by entering the Salesian Australia-Pacific website at www.sdb.org.au then clicking on the WYD panel (very evident from the home page), then clicking on the WYD2008 Registration link.  Note that this is a Salesian registration link only - you still need to register with WYD proper for all other WYD privileges like accommodation, tickets.
    The Australian Salesian team organising Salesian events is keen for international visitors to register now - this gives them a much better chance to plan accurately.  Another major figure at the Melbourne Festival will be Bishop Tim Costelloe SDB, auxiliary bishop of the Melbourne Archdiocese.
    Further information on both the Melbourne and Sydney Salesian events will be posted on the sdb.org.au site within the next week or two, so you are advised to continue visiting that site for further updates.  Act now for registration, however.
