BATTAMBANG: 27 January
2013
--On
24
January, the Feast day of Saint Francis of Sales, there was
great joy
amongst the teachers, staff and students of Vithayalai Don
Bosco, of
the Salabalath and the Andaung-chen campuses. There was great
joy
because Fr Leo Ochoa, sdb – the Director of Vithayalai
Don Bosco
Battambang – organized the occasion to be a combination of the
Solemnity of Saint John Bosco and the annual sports day for
the
Vithayalai Don Bosco Schools.
The celebration started with the liturgy to praise God and
thank him
for Saint John Bosco, who established the Salesian mission
according to
God’s will. Fr Leo Ochoa, as the Director of the Don Bosco
Children
Fund of Cambodia and the Director of the two Salesian Schools
in
Battambang, then blessed the school cars, teachers'
motorcycles and
students' bicycles and the new mini gymnasium. The gymnasium
was built
to commemorate the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth and
received
sponsorship from the Kindermissionswerk of Germany and the
Kinderfonds
of the Netherlands.
A basketball court has also been built from sponsored
donations from
the YMCA, Singapore. Each of the sponsors expressed generosity
of heart
for young people, enabling them to have more places to play
and for the
gymnasium to function as a multi-purpose hall for various
school
activities.
Following the formal program, teachers from Vithayalai
Don Bosco
Battambang commenced the pre-organized games and sports for
all of the
students to take part in. The celebration ended with a good
meal
together in the Salesian atmosphere of love, joy and
friendship.
