HENDERSON SI: 8 April 2011 -- A Digital Media Seminar
was held from 4th to 6th April, 2011 for selected students,
staff and animators of the Media club of Don Bosco
Henderson.
The five students, two teachers and two
leaders – were given an outline of photography, the workings
of a camera and the basics of developing and printing of
photographs. “Understanding the equipment is vital to
enable us get the right image to transmit the relevant
message”, explained Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb.
“It was amazing to look at the
different types of cameras and learn about its parts and
functions. Learning about – shutter speed, aperture
opening and film sensitivity and its relations was
exciting”, said Danny Betu, Senior Automotive student.
“Analyzing and understanding the
different aspects of a photograph, enables us realize that
different messages are picked up, depending on the
experience and background of people. At times there
can even be conflicting messages picked up by different
people” reflected Joanna Manufio, Junior Life Skills
student. “We therefore need to be very critical of
what we see and read”, she continued.
“It struck me, that I need to give out
relevant messages to everybody, in simple and quality
format”, said Paulus Buna, Instructor assisting in the
course.
“The course was interesting and I enjoyed
editing my photographs”, said Moses Paipai, Senior
Automotive student. “I have realized that we have so
many possibilities and we need to look beyond what is there,
and then the modern world opens up”, said Patrick Pasikaloa,
Senior Carpentry student.
“As teachers need to brush up our skills,
be good examples and open up new ways for learning for the
students”, said Mana Utsunomiya, JICA Volunteer and computer
Instructor at the Institute.
A longer Media Seminar is planned for the next break. _________________ AustraLasia
