Hua Hin combined meetings - Provincials and Youth Ministry

HUA HIN 14th February 2009 -- EAO Provincials and Youth Ministry Delegates are meeting at Hua Hin, Thailand, over these days from 12-16 February. The Provincials are in session for their annual meeting, while the Youth Ministry delegates are meeting for the first time in the Region for the six year period 2008-14.
Representing the YM Department from Rome are Fr Fabio Attard, the General Councillor, and Fr Dominic Sequeira of the YM Department. Fr Andrew Wong, Regional Councillor, is also present. The purpose of the YM Meeting is to study the Youth Ministry six year plan as it relates to the region and draw up an action plan based on it.
    As is customary for meetings of this kind, delegates reported on youth ministry as it is carried out across the region's provinces, vice provinces and delegations. Youth ministry in any region is conditioned by culture and political situations and in EAO these are diverse. The Salesian approach to youth ministry requires sensitivity to changes taking place in society and openness to the poor, to ethnic groups and to migrants. There is also an insistence on seeking collaboration within the Salesian Family.
    Fr Attard has presented the six year plan of the department, and Fr Wong the regional plan he has developed based on the plan of the Rector Major and Council. All these plans have been to a great degree harmonised within the Council itself.
    The remaining days will tackle some of the challenges that delegates are aware of and ways that provinces can respond to them.
