austraLasia #2345 Feast Day musings - from the digital world
ROME: 31st January 2009 -- A slew of emails came in today with
various 'Bosco' links! Despite the GC26 fear that we might not be in
this courtyard to 'enlighten and guide', I don't think we should jump
to too many premature conclusions on that, especially when you see the
volume of material out there.
The Pope is a latecomer to YouTube by comparison!
Try out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dfk0vDihaE&NR=1 for an
interesting way of presenting 'Don Bosco Ritorna', though a bit slow
and with archaic English by comparison with the lively Italian
original. The same video, when it completes, offers you a range
of other 'Bosco' related material, some from the States, others from
the Philippines, all of mixed quality but some of it is interesting.
Then if you want something even more interesting,
try this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD3LDWYHMk0 . The background
to this is the Salesian Family Spirituality Days recently in Rome and
you'll see the Rector Major in top form! (Pity they didn't include the
clip of him doing a Mexican dance, however). But the YouTube clip too
will give you other items in other languages, all just the tip of the
iceberg, really, since there is an incredible amount of material 'out
there' if you know how to track it down.
Speaking of which, someone wrote to me today with an
idea of collecting sheet music and mpegs on Salesian-reakted music on
SDL. Technically simple - all we need is the content. So here is
an open invitation - send me the material and I'll put it up. Sheet
music could be in pdf form and I'll include it as a paged image,
obviously.
We're not done yet. There is today's Message
To The Young by the Rector Major, about (in Italian real time) to
be delivered in Turin. You will find it on SDL (best is to search the
English collection under 'date' for today's date, or under 'Chavez' as
author if you wish - but for today might be just as quick to take it
from sdb.org where it will be prominent from the home page.
Whatever.
And finally. I wanted to make 31st January at
least the pre-publication date for 'Hacking the Way to Heaven', which
Lulu.com describes as 'a positive re-appraisal of the term "hacker"
with implications for faith and life today, especially in education and
formation terms for today's digital natives'. As I am awaiting a
foreword from a big name in the digital scene, this is a pre-publish
free download. But the entire book is available the cover for which is
the work of Alena Urbánková from the Czech Republic -
thanks Alena. As soon as the foreword is available I'll make the book
available as a printed edition, available for around €11. But for
now, grab your copy free! http://www.lulu.com/content/5912363
