First Solomon Islander Salesian professed in PNG
KUMGI (Simbu province PNG): 4th February 2009 -- On 31st
January this year 2 of the original 3 novices for PNG/SI made their
first profession in the presence of the Delegate, Fr Raphael Galve, at
Kumgi (not in Port Moresby as earlier reported), in Simbu province,
PNG. One of the two new Salesians is Brother Jefferson Oho'au who is
the first Solomon Islander Salesian. Jefferson has chosen to be a
Salesian Brother.
The other young Salesian is Brother Michael Singan,
from Namatanai, New Ireland province. He hails from the same spot as
Brother Augustine who made his first profession last year. Michael is
aspiring to priesthood. A number of students from Kumgi, who came
earlier for the start of classes for the new school year witnessed the
event, together with some young people from the place, with whom
Jefferson and Michael lived and served especially during the almost
daily oratory during the year.
They are now at the formation house in Port Moresby
starting their Postnovitiate stage and arranging for their studies at
the local seminary in Bomana.
