It's
that time of the year in PNG: academic
year winding down
PORT MORESBY: 31 October 2012 --
"Our schools here are winding up their classes for some
students. The
month of October saw the National Exams for Grade 10s and 12s
and also
their graduation. Our only tertiary institution in the
Delegation, Don
Bosco Technological Institute here in Boroko also ended the
classes and
will hold its graduation rites by the end of November.
For us here at Savio Haus Aspirantate, we ended our academic
year with
an overnight Retreat at Sivarai Namona Pastoral Centre of the
Archdiocese of Port Moresby. "Sivarai Namona", in Motu
language, means
"Good News." It was a moment for our aspirants to evaluate
themselves
and their experiences the past academic year, see how far they
have
gone and where they now stand. It was also a time for them to
plan for
the coming year. In concrete, they were guided how to make
their
Personal Plan of Life.
While some of our students are already on holidays the Grade
9s and 11s
still have classes for a few more weeks! Only after that can
we really
say that the academic year 2012 is over.
Meanwhile, it would be good to remind us and our students of
the wise
advice that holidays are just a change of occupation."
